BREEAM Certification Continues with Stříbro Retail Park in Czechia
The Stříbro retail park is the latest addition to our portfolio to receive the internationally recognised BREEAM In-Use certificate, achieving a Very Good rating. It’s the second certified property in our portfolio – with more to be announced soon.
At ZDR Investments, sustainability is not just a buzzword. It’s a key part of how we manage our real estate and design activation strategies. Last year, we launched an initiative to enhance the environmental and social impact of our European retail parks — both for the people who work there and for the communities they serve.
As part of this effort, we conducted detailed on-site assessments with hydrologists and ecologists and implemented their recommendations to improve the local environment.
Examples of improvements include:
-
Light pollution measurement
-
Installation of CO₂ monitoring units
-
Water-saving faucets and showers
-
Covered bicycle stands
-
Optimised ventilation and cooling schedules
-
Water leak detectors
-
Tree planting
-
Birdhouses and insect hotels to support biodiversity
The outcome? BREEAM In-Use certification at the Very Good level but more importantly, a healthier, more sustainable environment for tenants, employees, and shoppers.
The Stříbro retail park, built and acquired in 2022, is a typical retail centre in a smaller Czech city — anchored by a grocery store and supported by a cluster of daily-needs shops. But even smaller properties can have a big environmental impact.
In fact, Stříbro is also one of the sites where we installed photovoltaic panels last year:
Stříbro Retail Park Solar Project
-
Installed capacity: 99.9 kWp
-
Estimated annual energy production: 94 MWh
-
Estimated CO₂ saved: 56 tonnes per year
We see this as a meaningful step in our broader effort to improve sustainability across the portfolio.
